To Believe Is a Choice

Issue 15: Superstition
Ambroise Paré. 1564. From Dix livres de la chirurgie. US National Library of Medicine
Follow me home Ms. Sibyl, pirouette into collection hands for grabbing, know all
know all, oak leaves dismembered. Swallow half the puzzle pieces. Wrap shark tooth ‘round your finger. Shrink Ms. Sibyl—would one be stupid, to trust a memory? like did you really break that
promise. Ms. Sibyl can I make it so nothing’s ever dripped inside me? If we go together down to Hades. Ms. Sibyl you are felt,
not noticed, ghost of knowledge, stick
your hand through the socket of the unseen, sharpen the shark tooth, rip your own arm off, shove it into Apollo’s wanting mouth
so he has what you have, knows what you know.
